Looking at a 1980 chrysler outboard lower unit replacement 55hp

This unit work on a model 5573 1967 chrysler outboard 55hp outboard lower unit replacement?

If it is the single carb 55 HP engine, the lower units are swappable all the way until Force changed to a Mercury type lower unit. HOWEVER, The 1967 55 has a 5 inch extension to make it a long shaft. If your engine is short shaft you will need to change the driveshafts. No big problem because if you remove the water pump they simply slide out of the lower unit.

Frank my 55 hp will not shift into forward but runs great in reverse
Can you please point me in the right direction
