Looking at 83 Bayliner. Thoughts?

Hello,
I am looking at a 1983 Bayliner Contessa fly bridge with twin twin 4 cyl Volvo single prop drives. I was just wondering what you though of this boat. I will be moving to PNW and the Whidbey Island area at the end of the year.

Tread carefully. Regardless of the make (some will tell you just to walk away from this one), that's a pretty old boat. High odds of water infiltration in transom and stringers.

Good drives.
Expensive engines to repair/replace
That year Bayliner not too bad.
Underpowered.

If the stringers and deck are good, it's a good boat. If not, it's value is low. Like under $1k

I will be in the Oak Harbor area. I was stationed there from 96-00 and am heading back. I know alot has changed in 11 years, and I did not have a boat at the time. The second boat I am looking at is a 78 Carver Santacruz with twin V8 engines.

I too am looking at an '83 Bayliner Capri, Bowrider though. Claims runs good but needs transom repair. Asking $1500, any thoughts?

If the transom is rotted and needs replacement, chances are good the floors and stringers need help too. The capri's are not high $ boats so probably not worth it.
