look at these plugs!

These plugs all started looking like this after doing the decarb process in FAQ using the 3/4 gallon gas, 16oz seafoam and 3oz oil. I did do a deep creep first and didn't have this bad of problem, but low idle was worse after. What can I do? Motor use to run good before doing this, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to decarb it. Motor now sputs and cuts out and spits especially at high speed.

You always have to change your plugs after a decarb, that is why.

Also a good idea to retune your engine, particularly link 'n' synch.

ooooh. that is very interesting. After I posted this I sprayed deep creep into the cylinders and a lot of black nastyness came dripping out of the exhaust port. Then I went and started it and it ran good. Then I sprayed more deep creep thru carb. let it set then it ran terrible again. That very well could be.

I know u have to change the plugs after doing it, but at the rate I'm going, Champion stock should go thru the roof.

keep 1 set just for decarbing, cleaning them after just for the next decarb.

I wire wheel mine, clean em and gap em again. As long as they're not physically deteriorated then they're usually good to go.

Re: look at these plugs!

running any powerful cleaner through your carb will loosen up any tarnish or crap stuck to the float bowl and plug your needles/jets...

Just an FYI!

If you're gonna spray anything into your carbs to clean them, you had better be prepared to take them apart and do it properly ;)

I believe your right. I did have the carb off before the seafoam treatments and cleaned it, but now I do think there might be a problem there. Motor very hard to start even after it's been running. I'll tear it apart, clean and see what happens. Thanks for the info.

Nice set of plugs! I must be in the wrong forum, I was expecting something else.

ditto... other than the top broken off of 1, the plugs don't look too bad to me.

Re: look at these plugs!

Are the plugs in your pics the ones that you're talking about? If so; what's wrong with them. Of course, one has its porcelain broken...but the electrodes practically look new....

I don't get what you're trying to say.

Are you saying that the plugs should look worse, since you did a de-carb?

Please explain.

as the old MahaRushie would say.."Megadittio's"...fail to see a problem after Seafoam...normal as the setting sun in the west at dusk.....

Re: look at these plugs!

Yea, I dropped the one with the porcelin broken. So those plugs look good to you guys. OK. megadittos back, missed rush this week as I was on vacation and usually listen all day.

Cleaned out carb! backed her in on trailer, and wouldn't even start. I evidentally have something going on bad. My point with the plugs was yes they look horrible, and most where only ran in motor like 20 minutes at most. Yes the electrodes look good cause they are new, but is the porcelin where the gap is supposed to be tar black? are the electrodes suppose to be that black?

Next time I'll post better pictures.

Here's what my plugs look like after a season. I even mixed the last tank at 25:1 to give her a good lubing before she sleeps all winter.

Re: look at these plugs!

Question: If you're just spraying something like deep creep through the THROATS of the carbs, it's just going through the throat, venturi, through the crankcase (on a 2-cycle), and then into the cylinders, right? Point is, spraying into carb throat won't get it into the bowl, jets, tiny passages, etc. And that shouldn't loosen, nor clean, any varnish that will go onto clog tiny passages. It should loosen carbon in the combustion chamber, rings, etc., as Harry B. was getting at.

The seafoam-in-the-gas may be a different story, since it will get into the entire fuel system: filter, fuel pump, bowls, tiny passages, etc. I could see that loosening up crud that goes on to cause problems.

Finally, it looked like most of the plugs were clean, except one or two. Maybe something's going on with those cylinders?
