i am looking to put a 25" tohatsu 90hp on a 20" transom. i have been told that its ok to just build up the transom(and strengthen!) with some alloy box section and plate so that it can be mounted higher. does this sound ok? any thoughts?

Maybe! Just be aware that you are raising the centre of gravity, depending on the boat this may be significant or not. It may also just look plain ugly stuck up high.

yea never thought about the looks thing!! its a pretty stable boat and the extra hp should do it the world of good.

Try it just the way it is and see how it handles/performs before you do anything. I run a 9.9 longshaft on a short shaft transom and it works just fine. I could care less about getting the ultimate in performance or looks.

have you actually measured the transom and the motor? my "long shaft"(20inch) motor is actually only 18inchs from bracket to cavitation plate. <br />just a thought....
