I am looking for a small outboard to be used
mainly on rental fishing boats. My question is should I buy a long shaft or short shaft. I guess the motor has to be functional on both boats designed for a long shaft and short shaft. Which way should I go?

Thanks,
Harry

Re: Long vs Short Shaft

A long shaft will work on boats made for long shafts AND short shafts. A short shaft outboard will not work so good on a boat made for a long shaft. All depending of if you want speed and fuel efficency. You'll get there in time anyway. If you don't buy a boat of your own you'll have some cash for fuel, right? Or one short shaft AND one longshaft. Just a joke, sorry. Get a long shaft. Just beware of the rocks under the wet stuff then.
