Re: Long time NOT running 62 evinrude ""help john""!!
I found a 10hp "gem" that had been in storage for 42 years - here's what I did to it so it would run well and reliably:

Replaced fuel pump, cleaned and rebuilt carb, replaced all fuel hoses, installed new water pump, disassembled & inspected gearcase (it was ok) and put it back together with all new seals, replaced several dried out gaskets along with a new thermostat, installed new points & condensers, and replaced the ignition coils and installed new plugs. All in all I did go a little overboard on it (I spent $250 in parts) and I tore it almost completely down (my choice), but it kept me occupied for 3 months worth of my spare time. It runs like a champ too!

You probably won't need to go as far as I did, but check the compression and check the ignition system first. Minimally I would do a fuel pump, water pump, carb rebuild and check the gear case for leaks and change the gear lube.

-John
