Hi would appreciate some advice
I have a long shaft 8A Yamaha outboard (Appx 1975-80) which is great except I could do with
it being a short shaft!
is it possible to convert this easily to a short shaft?
From the casing it looks possible, simply to take the mid section out.
But,I don't want to damage any seals by finding out.
If it's not possible I'll sell it and buy a short shaft
hope this makes sense.

thanks in advance

graham

would appreciate mail direct thanks
graham@hope2911.fsnet.co.uk

Re: long/short shaft conversion

You can do it, but will need a shorter driveshaft and shorter water tubes and shift rod. I'm not familiar with your motor, and the long shaft may involve/include extensions for these parts which can be removed, but it's more likely you will need parts for the short shaft model. If you are not up to the conversion, you may want to sell your model in favor of a short shaft one (as you suggest in your post).
