I recently bought a long block but they didn't give me a oil pump, doesn't a long block usually come with a oil pump? My pump doesn't have more than 200 hrs on it.

Re: Long Block

Depends on where you buy. Rapido supplies new oil pumps with their long blocks.

Re: Long Block

Pull the old pump apart and look at it. If the engine is low time, the oil pump is probably ok.

Why are you replacing the engine? With only 200 hrs the oil pump will look like new inside unless you had a catastrophic failure or a lubrication related failure....

Re: Long Block

As others have mentioned, it all depends. Most all long blocks that I have purchased came with everything but a water pump and intake/exhaust manifolds - oil pan already installed etc. Given the different oil pan configurations now days however, some won't install an oil pan thus leave the pump off as well - due to many times the pan will dictate pump and or pickup design etc..

Seriously, best advice is for you to buy a good, high volume oil pump and pickup/screen for your application. That way you know the "heart" of your lubrication system is as good as the rest of your long block.

Good luck

Don't buy a high-vol oil pump, unless you have a high-vol pan!

I have used five, six, seven, and eight quart pans, had a 911 that was dry sumped, never heard of anything called a high volume pan.

Re: Long Block

High volume oil pump does not have any bearing on the pan nor visa versa given the discussion here.

Typically you have either (and/or combined) "high volume" or "high pressure" oil pumps. Many feel high pressure is a must but most engine builders will tell ya that a more constant pressure with good "volume" is the way to go.

If you believe that your pan "capacity" is an issue with a typical "high volume" oil pump then you need to be more concerned with the "oil return" characteristics of your engine...... Besides, high volume pump does not mean such great volume that it will suck the pan dry. :D

Plus if it was sucking the pan dry at least it is putting the oil where you need it:)

Thanks, very helpful information you've added to a thread that's 3 years old!

How long did you have to look to find it?????
