location of serial number

i was told i may have a mc- pre alpha sterndrive 1977possibly two differant years. i cant find no identifying numbers bet a i'am looking in the wrong place where on the yoke is the letter to id the ratio and where is the serial numbers for the stern drive located this my first rodeo with a stern drive if you can show me with that would be great thanks for your time

for my '75 mc-1, pre-alpha1. the sterndrive s/n is located on the mercruiser sticker on the port side. on my '72 it was also stamped very lighty into the casting on the upper, under the mercruiser sticker.
for my 165hp L6 the engine s/n is located on a metal tag right above the starter.

your's may be different. we don't know what year or engine.
