Hi, i have a mercury 2.2(single cylinder) serial number is A816133 with the number 312 below it.no water is coming out of the little pipe coming from the block, at first there was a trickle but now nothing, i can blow straight through so no blockage i take it that the impeller is just above the prop just tried to undo the stainless bolts carefully and YES both have snapped what is the best way to sort this out. the engine had been serviced and starts first time with loads of compression it would be a shame to throw away.
rayiow

You'll have to use an EZ-out to get the rest of the stud out. It's a bit that drills into the bolt stud and then you wrench back out.

I see that Quantum leap is from the midwest USA and probably on freshwater. Rayisleowight is from the Isle of Wight in the UK and if he is on saltwater I would caution against the use of EZ-outs (they may have a different name in the UK i.e. bolt extractors) in marine use. The grip of corrosion on the bolt threads and shafts will often exceed the torque rating for the bolt extractor (EZout) and will snap the device off in the bolt leaving you to extract the extractor.

Best to drill out the offending bolt and either retap if you are lucky or install a helicoil which in my opinion is better than the original threads.
