location of fuel filter ?? Yamaha 4 HP , 1996

I am having trouble locating the fuel filter for a 1996 Yamaha 4 HP gas outboard 2 cycle engine . I dissasembled the fuel pump hoping to see an internal fuel screen --not there . I wanted to disconnect the fuel hose from the base of the fuel tank to check that location for a screen , but because I have limited time at the remote boat location and still have a tankful of fuel that I was not prepared to drain , I left the engine in mid-project. Can anyone clue me in as to the gas filter location so I can save much tedious searching ?
