OK, newbie here.

Getting more familiar with my new motor.

I realize the "Start" position isn't marked on the throttle handle.
Can someone tell me how to find it?

FYI. 1981 Johnson Sea-Horse 25hp.

thanks,

Most motors have a stop that limits the max throttle in neutral just advance it to that point.

Agree with SS,

With the engine in neutral, open the throttle all the way. The neutral lock out should stop it at the perfect spot. However, check to make sure the lockout is working before attempting! The throttle should turn farther when in the forward gear than in neutral.

That may be what applies to the model in question but on some, mine for example, the throttle can be opened fully in neutral but beyond a certain point the starter cannot be operated.

OK,
yea, I recall the seller saying it shouldn't start in gear.

I'll advance the throttle while in Neutral, and
increment until it starts.
I guess experience will help me find the sweet spot.

Thanks for the info.

Re: locate 'Start' position on throttle?

Just wanted to follow-up.
I took a closer look at the throttle handle with a flash light and I could see the labels: 'slow', 'shift', 'start' and 'fast'. Also, the previous owner made notch marks on the handle for 'shift' and 'start'. Good deal.
