It's almost that time!!!...Lobster sport season in the Keys. Two days of bug hunting intermingled with fun and friends in the aquamarine waters of the Florida Keys!

Any other iboats folks making the trip???

Aren't the lobsters down there clawless? What fun is that? Geez...sounds awful...it aint lobsta diving unless the water temp is around 50*...visibility is about 5 feet and you have a chance of getting a finger or two crushed when you have your arm buried up to your sholder in a hole.

When are you going? Who knows...maybe there will be an emergency and I will have to fly down there for work.

Sport Season is July 26th and 27th this year. Regular season opens the following week, but the two day sport season is just way too much fun to miss! Lots of really great people having a good time boating, not the usual crowd of tourists.

I will go down any time but the mini season and the start of the season because there are absolutly too many amateurs that think it's the only time of year to catch lobster. Good luck to all who go.

Part of the reason I go for sport season is to hang out and have fun with all who go down for the celebration. I do go several other times throughout the season, but it to me is just one of the times that it's fun to be in the Keys.

does anyone have any GPS coordinates for good spots in the keys. I have never been lobster diving and just got an 18 foot center counsole. I love lobster, love water sports and go down to the keys all all the time. Suggestions on spots and how to catch em? I dont have tanks...just snorkle gear.

Every lobster down there has a Moray eel as a bunch mate waiting for the octapus that pry on them. You don't know what diving is until you've dived the Florida keys. P.S. Know one that really knows is going to give away there Lobster hole.

Ok, I've been wondering about this. I know crawdad/craw fish/cray fish whatever; lives in hole on clay bank and under rocks but what about lobster? exactly how do you catch those yummy thing? how to find them. I've seen on tv how commercial boat does it but not by diving. There are fresh water lobster too isn't it? What about a prawn? is it a baby lobster or just a giant shrimp? Lobster, shrimp and crab are my absolute favorite food.:p

Re: Lobster Diving in the Keys

I'm a scuba diver (recreational, but certified). On a diving cruise trip to Bimini we did some freediving for lobsters. They'd normally be in a crevice or in an area where there's an "in and out". They'll back in the hole or crevice and if they have to "bug-out" they swish out the back side of the hole. We'd freedive with a gig and hit the hole with the handle and when they came our the rear, we'd gig 'em. Getting lobster in the 1 pound range is "normal". They're great when grilled on the dock and washed down with you choice of "mouthwash".
