Load Resistor

Evening Guys.

When checking the DVA output on the orange wires from the power pack while connected to the ignition coils, lets say you should have a reading of at least 150V or more. If the reading is low, you disconnect the orange wire from the ignition coil for that cylinder and reconnect it to a load resistor and retest to determine if the ignition coil is likely bad, or if the PP is at fault.

I realize the load resistor is taking the place of the coil for testing purposes. My question is what are the preferred load resistors to use for this application? Any to stay away from?

Ty each and all for your help.

Re: Load Resistor

Just a guess but I would assume ( know what that makes) whatever the ohm resistance of the coil would be, IE if the coil reads 8 ohms static resistance then remove the coil and in its place put an 8 ohm resistor theoretically.

this should provide the proper resistance, hopefully someone else posts the actual resistance value needed, this is just a guess on my part.

I would stay away from the ceramic type as thay will also have an impedance factor with the wire windings.
