Load/Capacity Calculation? How?

Hello,

We have a 1983 Baja which is missing the capacity plate. We don't seem to be able to get it from anywhere, we tried everything (I guess).

So, now having some pictures of other Baja 16 capacity plates, we found out that they are all different. And we don't know for sure if they are correct.

If a persons' average weight for calculation purposes is 150 pounds and the plate says 4 persons, that would ad up to 600 pounds, but it says "or 510 pounds". Anybody know how this works?

Or can anyone direct us to a owner of another Baja 16SS who could mail us a picture of their plate, or give us the data? We would just copy the data and have one made.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ahoy!

Have you looked at the NADA site. They sometimes have that info.

Re: Load/Capacity Calculation? How?

There is a person and a weight number.
For example, 4 people OR 510#, whichever you reach first.
The person rating is usually based on seating and general safety. While the weight # is an absolute maximum.
Also, the hp rating may change from year to year, based on changes in the construction or the motors on the market.

For example, one of my boats is rated for 85 hp.
The next year, the exact same boat, is rated for 90 hp.
That is the year most outboard companies started building 90 hp engines, and the boat company wanted to follow along.

So, get photos of the same make, model, and year, and use those numbers.

Re: Load/Capacity Calculation? How?

So weight (in pounds) is the absolute maximum? Heck, that makes the "4 persons" limit pretty much worthless.

With 2 additional fuel tanks installed, I am probably looking at 2 people maximum now.

Well, for years I am trying to get info about the same make/model/year boat, no success.

The only way I found out what boat it was in the first place was with the insurance, the BoatFax report told us then that it was a 1983 (not 1984 as on the title). And this is where it all ended.

Thanks for the info. Now I am trying to figure out what to do this weekend, looks like I am really at the upper limit already.

the last 2 digits of the hull ID number stamped into the fiberglass starboard side of the transom is where you find the year

Thanks for the info about the last 2 numeric digits, they say 83 which then would make the boat a 1983.
