Ok new to the Livewell thing.

I just purchased a 91 Aries 170 F/S and was cleaning the livewells out. water drained out of them good.
Question i have is there a plug that goes in them to hold the water in? sounds dumb but figured i would ask.

The plug will usually be a hollow pvc type pipe that fits into the hole so that the water can rise as high as the pipe but then flow over the top and drain out so that fresh water is continually cycling.

Ok that makes sense, but how does the water get in? mine only have drain holes. please forgive the possibly dumb question. the last boat with wells i had was a 73 fabuglas tri hull... about 10+ years ago.

Re: Livewells?

If it is a true livewell, then there should be a hose coming into the top of the livewell that will spray water into it when you flip the switch on the dash. Do you have a switch that says "livewell" or "aerator"? If not, then what you may have is not a livewell but just a storage compartment or cooler.

My old boat had a livewell, on one side and on the other side it had a storage compartment that also had the plastic liner. The storage compartment was actually meant to be a cooler and hold ice. It had a plug in the bottom to allow the melted ice to drain out.

Re: Livewells?

So do you have a fresh water inlet somewhere in the tank? If so, it should just be connected to a livewell pump on the outside of the boat somewhere below the water line. Looks just like a bilge pump.

Sorry Michael, but I don't see any pics. Probably a result of my computer ineptitude. Any way, there should be a switch somewhere on your accessory panel to turn on the pump. Assuming there is and the pump works then you're all set.

A lot of bass boats like that have a lever by the driver to open or close the livewells.
