Live well overflow question

I am getting a new-to-me boat ('96 sailfish 176cc) ready for the season. The live well wasn't used by the previous owner and needs a new pump and overflow drain tube. I bought a new push-in overflow drain tube thinking they were standards sizes. It turns out that my drain hole is too small (1/4"-3/8" diameter) to fit the push-in tube. I haven't been able to find any other option. What am I missing?

There is a thru hull opening high in the live well that you can see in the photos. Is it possible a previous owner plugged the drain hole and allowed water to overflow thru that?

First boat with a live well...

Thanks!

I would say you’re missing the fact that the over flow, if it ever had one, was replaced with a side mount thru hull.
