I have a 1990 Basstracker, 17ft aluminum proV with 40hp Evinrude. My live well pump has quit working on the "auto" function. It still works on the "manual" function. It is run by a rocker switch on the dash of the console. The switch is: top position= auto, bottom position= manual.
The switch has internal lights for either position when turned on.
Underneath the console, the switch wires run through something about the size of a roll of quarters. It may be a relay of some sort. Could this be the problem? Thanks for any help.

Since it's working in one configuration, here's how I'd check it out;

1. Make sure that you have all good connections on the back of the switch. If not fix 'em.

2. Bypass the switch and see if it works on the automatic function running straight to battery for power.
a. if it works then replace your switch.
b. if it doesn't you'll need to replace the pump.

Hope this helps!
CC

SCRATCH MY POST!!!

If that quarter size thingee is the timer, which it likely is, then I'm likely misleading you!!!

It sounds like the timer thingee or the switch is gone, so test power straight throught that thingee and see if it works as a timer . .. . if it works that way it's a simple cheap-o switch, but if the timer thingee isn;t doing it;s job I'd just get a new swich with the timer thingee on it to keep things simple!!!

SORRY BOUT THAT!!
CC

I read your post and it started me thinking. I have a 1997 Tracker Pro Deep V 17 and it has the same Auto/Manual switch for the livewell. I bought the boat used and have never used the live well. Could someone please explain how the livewell pump is suppose to work at the two switch positions Auto/Manual?

Thanks Guys................Lee

Re: live well aerator

In the MANUAL position a livewell pump pumps water continuously into the livewell. An overflow tube simply lets excess water run back out. In the AUTO position, a timer is activated that runs the pump for a period of time (approximately 30 seconds or so) and then its off for about three minutes. On some systems the time period is adjustable.

Thanks guys, for your replies. Upinsmoke is correct about how the switch and live well works.
Lee, if you're not near the water, you can check your live well by holding a garden hose to the intake at the bottom of the transom and have someone work the switch for you on the console.
I will repair mine when the weather gets better and let you know what the problem was.
Thanks again.

Your BassTracker most likely also has a manual valve control for the water inlet. My boat has two live wells and so two valves and they are located down by your feet on the side. You must open the valve to fill the well.

You can close the valve to transport fish in the livewell with the aerator set on auto. The time would be based on the temp and number of fish.

Same would be true for live bait housed in the livewell. Dump some ice in there to keep them cool.

I rarely use my livewells as we sport fish but they are nice if you want a panfish dinner on occasion
