"The organisers had billed it as a concert for two billion people.

But the global interest in the Live Earth "save-the-planet" concerts appears to have fallen well short of expectations.

The Johannesburg event failed to sell out, only 3,000 people watched in Shanghai and Australians tuned into Wimbledon instead.

Meanwhile, Wembley was only half-full until the mid-afternoon and fans in Hamburg were drenched by torrential rain.

Madonna topped the bill at Wembley, where tickets were ?55 and fans had to put up with a series of gaffes and even crude jokes."

I think the Artic Monkeys have the right approach.

"It's a bit patronising for us 21 year olds to try to start to change the world," said Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, explaining why the group is not on the bill at any of Al Gore's charity concerts.

"Especially when we're using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical," he said in an interview before a concert in Paris."

"But the band wonder why anyone would be interested in the opinion of rock stars on a complex scientific issue like climate change.

"Someone asked us to give a quote about what was happening in Sheffield and it's like 'who cares what we think about what's happening'?" added Helders.

"There's more important people who can have an opinion. Why does it make us have an opinion because we're in a band?"

-ah, the wisdom to know, they have no wisdom.

Anyone check the carbon footprint for this little shin dig? My favorite aspect of this joke was the Johanasburg concert had a terribly low turn out due to cold weather. Couldn't they have had this on the internet? I mean algore invented it.

Nope, I'm not into propaganda raising events such as this. This should also be a calling card for Al and his logic on Global Warming that the majority of the people don't get it.

Lmao No. What a pointless exercise. They can't even get the propaganda machine to spread the lies properly anymore.

Not only did I not go, I saved the planet by not turning on my television to watch it either. :D

Al Gore would be proud of me, and that makes me warm inside :D;)

Very poorly publicized and promoted. The only way I heard about it was when AG was briefly interviewed on NBC last week.
