So my friend is a tool nut. Over the past 25 years he has been through about 4 different mills, tool grinders, industrial size equipment and most recently he got rid of his 2 older lathes and put a lowball bid on one that was listed on ebay....... and won.

The winning bid was a total surprise on a new 14x42 lathe. It was freighted up to VT and then the fun began.

It was in a box that just about filled a trailer..... we had to off-load, unpack and assemble. Well today was the assembly day .......... we had some fun. We did not get hurt and did not break anything.

It maxed out the engine hoist which we had to counterweight with 3 bags of concrete duw to the length we needed to have the lift are extended. The whole unit weighed about 1800 lbs. Kudos to tractor supply for selling a nice short lifting strap.

Oh yeah the entire thing is coated in cosmoline type grease so the new chuck and tail stock are sitting in the parts washer and the whole thing needs to be wiped down with kero and re-oiled with the right stuff Mobil Vactra which we have......it's pretty sticky stuff.

Re: Little Tuesday Fun

It was on ebay.........listed in the $6000 or best offer ........ he offered $2500 and got it. It cost about $500 to freight it.

Now he got rid of a 3 phase 7 HP 16 x 60 monster lathe that just occupied too much room and would not cut metric threads and was started to show some wear. The new one is a simple 2 HP regular 220 motor. No need to run the phase converter ;) This one will cut metric threads and american as course as 4 TPI ......... it will fit the bill nicely.

Yes still have a bridport mill, cut off saws, band saws, heat treat furnace and a tig welder....... yes we can make just about everything.

Nice new shop toy!! I don't think I can convince the admiral I need a lathe that big. I have serious tool envy right now. Great price too. Some guys have all the luck.:)
