little plastic prop

I have a Yamaha 2hp motor with a plastic prop 7 1/4 diameter, 4 pitch. I think the motor may not be reaching its full rpm & hp output. The motor is nearly new in excellent running condition and I am thinking about reducing the diameter to get more rpm. The pitch has to stay the same and this is the only prop available for this motor. If I lose some diameter & get more rpm, will I also lose thrust? Also what kind of tach would you use on this little 1cyl motor?

Norman - thanks for the reply. Never knew there was something like that out there. What a cool little tach. I learn something new every day on this board.

"Mercury Service Monitor" is also made by Tiny Tach but is suited to outboards without any having to interpolate readings. They make three models for different otypes of outboards.
