It's a 2004 75 hp Yamaha outboard 4 stroke.... little black hose behind the shifter spline when I tries to drop lower unit... ended up twisting the hose enough to get the piece off... now I'm not to sure how to get it back on....

That hose is really short. I managed to get it back on with a helper. I lifted the drive, and my helper used a long needle nose pliers, and got it in place, then continued to slide the drive up the rest of the way. I don't know why they make it so short, and hard to get to.

What is the hose for? It goes up to the main motor?

Yea it was a pain and my wife was cooking supper and i was loosing daylight... ended up breaking the zip tie and I was able to spin it back on (while holding the lower unit stable with one hand and a knee) without twisting the hose all up then I slid the the unit up put one bolt in, rushed to the store.. bought another zip tie came back and lowered it enough to re zip tie it haha... what a pain. ..

Would that wee hose supply a pressure signal for the speedometer ?-------That is what found on many outboards.
