This is my last new topic for a while, I promise. It's just been an all-in-one night for me, and I appologize.

My 1990 Wellcraft 170 Classic open bow, w/Mercruiser 3.7 I/O tilts hard to port when I reach plaining speed. I can adjust for it with my transom tilt, when I drop down to 15-20 mph. However, if I run at 25-40mph it tils hard, no matter what I do. I've move my anchor to the other side of my boat, but it dodn't really help.

I did purchase some "automatic" trim tabs( http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...rt tab&**********=883252927&*******=052536402 )that I'll put on in the spring...but other than that, any advice? Or, any advice with these?

Re: Lists to port @ speed

there is the little trim tab/fin thing on your outdrive just behind the prop if u havnt tried adjusting that.. also u might have to experiment a little when u fit your "automatic" tabs such as more spring pressure on the port side one for example when u fit them..

everything else being equal.. the boat hull should try and list the opposite way to which the prop turns when under torque.. viewed from the back.. prop turns clock-wise or to the right the boat should try and turn anti-clock-wise or to the left.. which way does your prop spin..??

trog

LFK;

Here are a few questions;

1) Have you installed the Smart Tabs yet?
2) Are you running a Hydrofoil on the cavitation plate?

3) Does the boat seem to run with the bow down too much at cruising speeds?
4) What happens when you let go of the steering wheel when you are cruising?

The water should be splashing off the sides behind the helm not at mid ship or further forward.

I think there is a good possibility that you are running bow down and the boat is "bow Steering".

I have yet to install them, I've already winterized....so it will have to wait until spring when I can play with and test them.

I do have a hydofoil.

It does seem like it's plowing (bow down) more often than not, but once I reach cruising speed it planes out of that, and with little transom adjustments I can get the bow where I want it, except for the tilt....

I'll check the steering...I've been meaning to do that. Again, this might all be htypothetical until I get the boat back out on the water in the spring.

Sounds like the typical problems with hydrofoils when they lift the stern too much. The boat is running with too much keel in the water and the list is a torque list from the prop rotation. The foil is exagerating the list by lifting the stern when you are cruising. My money says the list will go away when you get rid of the foil.
