short story......has anybody used it on gellcoat and how did it do?

....long story...
i saw a product called liquid glass on the discovery channel.....it actually formed a layer of glass on a surface.....it was said to be a new product....and was used for mostly grafitti removal at this point in time...however the applications for it were numerous.....at this time it was not available in canada...only in europe.

in walks a coustomer......we are rebuilding the transom on a 31 footer for him.
his caddy car is 2 1/2 years old and looks showroom new. he has only used liquid glass on it. nevew washes the car...only dry shammys it.
he stated that he bought the product in ontario and had used it for years.

i compaired the product to farecla glaze (a professional gellcoat finishing product....and one of the absolute best) the liquid glass was allmost as good with half the application time.

again....has any one used it long term....and how does it hold up in a marine enviroment?

I don't think it's a new product oops. I have used a product with the same name several years ago. Then it was marketed as a car polish, and it gave a fantastic finish.

Re: liquid glass for polish.

Its been around for many years, I used it on a car I had about 25 years ago.
It does give a great finish but it seems to change the surface or color somewhat, I used it on a red Mustang I had, and to keep up the finish after that I had to continue to use it. It sort of made the paint hazy or milky looking as if there was some sort of build up on it. Nothing short of an abrasive took it off, and repainting was a challenge to say the least.

I've since always been a bit leery of products that won't disclose what their made of.

The brand Liquid Glass also changed hands a few times over the years, here's a link to the latest: http://www.shopmpt.com/liquidglass/liquidglass.html

I think it might be an OK polish for a show car or something that doesn't need constant attention or cleaning, but for a car that sits out in the sun and rain, it wasn't the right choice.
The stuff looks like any common liquid polish out of the can, it's not a paint, not a wax based product, so my guess was that its some sort of silicone or PTFE product. It does give the appearance of being a coating on the paint after applied but I'm not sure if it's so much a coating or just a color change due to the way light refracts off it?

The part that I really didn't like was that they tell you to wash well with car wash and remove with 00 steel wool. That tells me it's impregnating the paint to at least some degree.
