Re: linkage/synchronization problem

Remove air box cover and place throttle control in nuetral.observe all three carb flaps to insure they are closed .If not there are adjustment lock screws on throttle linkage for each.throttle up fully and see that all three are opening to full horizontal position.Adjust accordingly. It is also necessary to have them opening in syncronization with position of ignition timing .This is just rough adj. assuming things haven't been moved from factory setting. If they open too soon or too late in relation to spark it can cause this dead out of hole symptom. So can idle mix adj.If all fails you may have to do a link and sync which determines position of piston in relation to timing plate firing position .If your not skilled in that area I would recommend a competent johnny/rude dealer.

Re: linkage/synchronization problem

Hi Destiny,
The first position foward, or the first position in reverse basically just controles the shifting, and has little or no effect on throttle. The problem that you're describing could be caused by a number of things. It could be as OB says,a sync problem with the carb. plates, or an idle timming problem, but if nothing has been changed I would put my money on dirty carbs.,or not enough idle speed, which again points to one or more of the low speed jets being plugged. Also don't forget to check for spark. I've seen a 70 h.p. that sounded real good idling in neutral with only one cylinder firing, but as soon as it was put in gear it would die.
Just my thoughts, but I hope it helps.
