Re: linkage adjustment

Did you get the shift rod into the connector completely?

Also, just to make sure we don't have a prop slipping problem here, I take it the engine was loudly clanking until you lowered the RPMs? And it went back into gear all by itself right?

Finally, have you got remotes hooked up or did you shift from the lever on the side of the engine?

The shift rod in the midsection is supposed to be slightly bent. There is a small adjustment that's possible at the shift handle, but lets make sure we really need to do that.

Re: linkage adjustment

I don't think so. I think you're right and the linkage is somehow a bit off. If it were the gears that were stripped, the engine would be making some really strange noises at idle. And if the driveshaft splines stripped out, it probably wouldn't have ever re-engaged.

At the base of the shift handle, there should be a screw you can loosen so you can adjust the position of the shift handle relative to the shaft it turns. Try adjusting the shift handle so forward is engaged more (a lot more). Also, I take it you're not operating with remotes right? Otherwise you want to adjust the cable so neutral on the shift handle matches neutral on the remote.
