I need help connecting the steering on my boat I have push pull style steering and have the tilt tube part. After watching old boats scoot around on utube videos I noticed there was an extra rod or link that connected the steering cable to the motor.

I called the guy I bought the boat from and he says the cable connects directly to the motor and the tilt tube bolts to the transom.

This cant be right because the tilt tube mounting bracket just dangles in the air.

If i am missing the link could someone post some pictures of the steering hardware from this type of setup 1970 60 hp push pull with tilt tube so I can convince the guy to look though his mountain of junk for it thanks.

There are some different ways, and some do mount to the steering arm ,but have a little connector, the cable would then be held by a stand off mounted to the transom. But,if you have the tilt tube on your engine, your right that you can connect the cable to the starboard side of the engine and use a steering link bar that would have a threaded end with a 90 degree that goes thru the steering cable hole ,and then has a swivel on the engine connection that a bolt goes thru to connect to the steering arm of the eng.If you go to the iboats store ,look under steering parts and look at the different applications. As for the link bar, most boat yards with old stuff lying around are full of them, you can also look on EBAY,surely there will be some there
