I am working on a 1987 90 hp yamaha 2 stroke.
It was missing on the botton 2 cylinders. When I choked both of the cylinders, they would fire.
I rebuilt all three carbs and started the motor. It sounds better, but it does not sound right. It kicks every so often and will stall.
I checked the timing, and at a 1200 rpm idle it fires at 10 degrees after TDC.When I advance the throttle the timing does advance as it should, but I am unsure of what the correct advance should be.
All three cylinders fire,as I pulled the plugs off while the motor was running and the motor misfired when I did so.
I am not sure what the timing and link and sync procedure is,and I do not know what the proper timing setting is,and infact I am not sure timing is the problem.
Can anyone help me out here.

The idle speed should be around 1000 rpms. Use of the proper service manual will give the exact idle timing which sounds as if it is too high. It will also give the proper procedure for the link and sync.

Thanks Ray,
But I was kind of hoping not to have to buy a service manuel. But if all else fails I will do so.
