I will move your thread. You might get some good answers here but you should actually state a specific question.

" gettin my controls
and harness squared away...?"

I am guessing you have a Chrysler????

First get a CHRYSLER on that hull! LOL

You have appeared to have confused the moderator: Your question really belongs in the Merc Forum. HOWEVER: I think I have an old style connector for your Merc. Go to your private messages where I will post my email address so I can send you a couple of photos.

When you get the message that you are not allowed it is because the forum has timed you out--it happens to me all the time. When it happens, go advanced and there should be a log in window. Log in again, review the edit or post, then either save your edit or submit your post.

I ordered my ENGINE harness from ebasicpower.com. They have detailed information on their products. New harness was around $140. You might have a part number located on the boot of the engine harness. Should be inside the cowl.

If u go to the site, search Part# CDI474-9550 and see what u think. It is for the boat side.

Welcome aboard, PaPa. Your Merc 500 looks just like mine. If you still have the original motor harness (5 pin male), your only choice is taking a chance on a 40+ year old boat side harness. Mercury/Quicksilver are No Longer Available (NLA). For new parts CDI is about the only bet. As stated by Jitterbug the CDI 474-9550 is remote controller to motor harness. It will not match with your existing original motor harness (too many pins). CDI 414-2770 is the internal motor harness that goes with 474-9550. Google those two CDI part numbers - the prices are all over the board. You will drop about $300 on both harnesses.

The remote in your 3rd pic should work with your motor, but it has the later style harness plug which is made to connect into the front of the motor, not the side like you need. If Frank has what you need - great. If he doesn't Google the CDI numbers. Good luck.

Re: lil' help...?

I always search via s/n and I cant ever get "found parts" an when I look at listings of models they carry parts for it skips my s/n and yr. Ive looked on alot of part sites, ebay,CL and nothing..Ive been dealing with this for about a month I search and search even made craigslist ads.. what I need is everything that goes between my right hand an the motor(control box, harness)after trying all month to get a set of controls that will work Ive ended up with three diff sets.Im hopin I can just deal with this plug situation an use one I have because Im getting nowhere finding a box with a 5pin harness..
maybe im not cross referencing the right way or something..So can I swap out the inner harness to give me a 8 pin giving me better odds of finding a harness that fits?

Sorry in advance for any confusion this is my first attempt at boating an I dont know what everythings called an what lingo to use...
Thanks

Hello GA, I'm no pro, man, but I would bet that the 474-9550 would work with the existing motor harness. Like some vehicles, connectors have dummy plugs. A wire runs into a dead end and does nothing. As long as the female end has the extra wires, it should work. Know what I mean?

I wish u luck P Bear on your search. I wish I could rip my harness out and send it to you so you could try it out.

Jitter, 474-9550 is all female, but I don't remember if the pins lined up with the Merc harness.. On my '66 500 everything was rotted, so I just changed out with both CDI harnesses. I did end up with a tach wire, which the OEM harness didn't have, so I can add a tach now.

Here is the CDI catalog page for the boat and internal harnesses. It might help PaPa_Bear.

I'm no pro either, just trying to keep this 45 year old motor running. So far so good. My fingers are crossed.
