...has disappeared upon greasing my gimble bearing. I think I missed that one or didn't grease it enough when I bought the boat last summer. I'm hoping it was just a little dry and no damage occured on my two short outings last month when I discovered the noise. If it comes back I already have the correct tools to replace it if need be.
It's good to work in a machine shop.;)

I'll follow up with a report one way or the other as this info may help others.

Have you had the drive off yet? If not, you might have not forgot about greasing it and there is water in the bellows which will wash out the grease.

Nope, haven't had the drive off it yet. The bellows looks fine but I know I won't know for sure until I do pull it. I'm not dodging your good sound advice, just trying to end out the season if possible without a major tear down. :)

Pulling the drive isn't a major tear down....it's 6 nuts and a clip., plus a whopping $10. gasket set.
Me, I'd rather take the 30 minutes to R&R to actually see the situation.
