Light Problem

I have a 1994 Ranger with the amber lights. Got a hoppy kit to convert to 4 wire. My problem is that the tail lights do not work at all, even though I am getting power to the back. My brake lights and turn signals work, unless I turn on my lights. Then nothing works. When the lights are on, both sets of wires are hot...green/yellow (right/left) and brown. I am stumped. Any help?

Re: Light Problem

Whenever I have a light problem on a trailer I rule out a grounding problem before any other ttoubleshooting. I had a similar porblem on an old Little Dude trailer and fianlly had to run a separate ground wire to all lights to solve the problem.

Re: Light Problem

Definitely check all grounds, at the hoppy kit, on trailer, and also at the tail lights. I had the same exact problem with a hoppy kit today and it was the grounds at the tail lights. They may look ok but they need to be unscrewed cleaned and put back on. I was ready to return my hoppy kit and it turned out to be the grounds. Good luck.

Re: Light Problem

It was the ground. Had to run a wire all the way to the front of the trailer to get the ground. Weird, but it worked. Thanks for the help.
