STUNNING: Have you ever seen light pillars before? The phenomenon occurs when light reflects off flat ice crystals in the air close to Earth?s surface. (Photo: John Ashley, Columbia Falls, Montana)

Never saw anything like that before. Super Cool!

(are you sure it wasn't a transporter beam? Did any strangers suddenly appear in town?)

Hey, I know the guy that took that picture, and yes, we see that quite often at night here in Montana

Sun dogs are also a cool phenomena

Sitting around one night on a beach in northern Ontario, the Northern lights erupted.above encompassing the whole area above our heads. I had seen them before but had never heard them doing a pulsating sorta noise, and the colours were red through orange to blue through green.

And Nope was not under the influence of anything.

The folks who really understand this phenomenon can explain why you are mistaken and there is no sound possible.

Me? I've heard it too, numerous times. :)

One of the first times I saw the northern lights was back in the 70's. I was in the upper peninsula of Michigan at Grand Marais on the southern shore of Lake Superior. Off to the north over the blackness of the sky over the lake was a brilliant display of the northern lights. Another time there was a really brilliant display overhead at an anchorage at the south end of the Detroit River just before it opens into Lake Erie. A night to remember for sure.

When I lived in northern Alberta I used to see both. Once when walking the dog, I watched the nothern lights move around the sky. They moved in a complete circle around me as I watched them.

Also saw sun dogs quite a few times. Locals used to say that sun dogs show up just before a weather change.
