I guess I'm cheap.
The regular light bulbs are always priced right when I shop. A 4-pack for $1.00
I guess it will be different when I own my own home.
I know the energy efficient bulbs save money, over the long run. They are a much better choice.

B.C.
I used to use the energy saving bulbs but they are terrible to try and read with. I went back to good old light bulbs with the "long life" which is just a marketing ploy we all fall for.
I just switched last month to those twisty fluorescent bulbs also and I really like them. They take a few seconds to warm up but once they do they are nice and bright.
Our local hardware store had them on sale for $3 or $4 with an instant rebate thru the power company for a total cost of 50 cents or so each...figured what the heck and grabbed 6. I wish I grabbed more at the time.
I have heard that some of Tom Edison's orginal bulbs still work. Of all this technology and we can't get a light buld to last long.

I buy the cheap ones for the easy to change places. The hard to get to places, I try to find the 130 volt with the longest hour rating.
SS, I believe they could make light bulbs that would last forever but they would use lots of power and give little light.

18R... and they can really cost you a lot if you cut yourself in the process and have to make a trip to the ER.
While I suppose any savings in energy is good.....saving 20 watts is nothing compared to using that 8000 watt clothes dryer one less hour per week, or finding a way to cut back on that 1000 cubic foot gas heater.
We are back to talking about light bulbs again!
NoelMG your correct. "its going to be a long winter"

However it is not a bad subject at all.
There are bulbs made for ruff use (like Drop lights) they cost a lot more and I use them for room lights as they last longer also.

The fluorescent light bulbs be them twisty or tube shop lights are not a option for me.

They create a lot of radio frequency noise between 00.005 KHZ and 30 MHZ. SWL and Ham bands.

LED lighting will be the futher.. me thinks
I presume the little spiraly flouresent lights are what you call energy saving. I went to them last year because they are supposed to last longer.out here in the stix we have lots of power surges and regular bulbs dont last long.
I didn't vote. There was no option for me. I use the twisty's in places like the pantry, laundry room, garage, shed, porch lights, etc. I use regular incandescents everywhere else.
I use both the "twisty" flourescent bulbs and regular incandescant. The flourescent bulbs seem to change the colors in the rooms in wierd and sometimes unattractive ways.
Spiral flourescents for me.

Even if they didn't use a lot less energy I would use them because they last so long.

In the 6 years since I moved into this house I have had to change 2 out of about about 30.

I do have incandescents in special fixtures like spotlights and mirror fixtures in the baths.

In 10 years we will all be using adjustable spectrum LEDs
Kerosene lamps for me. Talk about saving energy.

--------------------------------------------

SBN you aint bought any kerosene lately? Stuff is high.
