I just received my lifting eye for my 150 mariner but i'm unsure how to actually secure it on the motor. Do I need to remove the flywheel nut before I screw this on, it doesn't seem to go in very far as is? Also if I do have to remove the nut, will I have to reset any adjustments afterwards or am I good to just retighten and go about my business once im done

????-------------If you remove the nut then the flywheel could end up hanging on the hoist.-----------The rest of the motor could be laying on the ground !!-------Good to ask questions before going ahead if you are not 100% sure of what to do.

Re: lifting eye procedure

Gerry, I just bought one of those lifting eyes. Mine screws into the flywheel quite a ways, without removing the flywheel nut or anything else. I suspect the OP may have some stripped flywheel threads.

If you have the puller type with the internal puck you need to remove it before screwing it onto the flywheel. screw the flywheel part on all the way or as far as you can then screw the lifting ring in. No need to take the nut off the flywheel or even loosen it.

Re: lifting eye procedure

The two I have, have never given me a problem but in re-reading the first post, I have to ask, is he removing the flywheel or lifting the engine?
