I have been reading the forums and can't seem to find step by step on how to remove a large outboard motor. I was hoping that someone would be willing to spoon feed me info so I don't end up hurting my self. I have a 1992 Yamaha 115. I need to lift it all the way off the boat to repair this monstrosity of a transom rebuild job (I didn't do it).

I just bought this boat and had it parked at my dock over night and by morning it had sunk 4 inches. When I pulled it out of the water I noted water coming from the bolts the holds the tilt and trim and from the base of the transom.
There is three main things I would like to know
A) Is this my lifting point? I will be using a come-along to do the lifting.

B) Do I just start detaching lines from the motor, do I need to cap them off or do I just unhook and let hang until I'm ready to hook them back up?
C) If the lines are still good do I just hook them back up and they are ready to go or is there steps I need to take before they will be working again?
Any and all information will be welcome since I have no clue what I'm doing

View attachment 172415 Yes that is a lifting point ;)
B) Do I just start detaching lines from the motor, do I need to cap them off or do I just unhook and let hang until I'm ready to hook them back up? Just disconnect no capping needed and UnPlug the wiring harness.....
C) If the lines are still good do I just hook them back up and they are ready to go or is there steps I need to take before they will be working again? You are right....

But wait there is more!!! When the motor is lifted it will need to be slid over towards the left side and you will need to slide the steering cable out. This could be stubborn.

We have a VERY good restoration section here on iboats to help guide you along ;)

Welcome to the madness of restoration and playing "dry dock" games.

We will guide you to fix it right and not use that "band aid" plate that someone installed (bad business)

Awesome Thanks Bob. I will be checking out madness of restoration and playing "dry dock" games now that I have step one mentally mapped out.
