Hey guys,

I need to lift my Tohatsu 20 (electric start, power trim/tilt) off the back of my swimstep. Boat is moored in the water and the kicker is too heavy to lift directly. At our marina, we have a small hoist I can use to lift it off.

I was going to set up a series of straps to lift it. However, the other day when I was getting ready for the lift, I noticed inside the engine compartment, there is what appears to be a lifting ring behind the flywheel. Looks like it's aluminum and I cant see any other use for it. Can anyone confirm that this is what it's for? The owner's manual shows it in photos, but doesn't indicate what the part is used for.

Re: Lifting a Tohatsu 20HP

Link is too slow to open, some engines have them only to raise crankcase and take it apart from middle engine with crane at shop, other than lifting entire engine, if it breaks will have an unwanted submerged 20 HP, bad music.-

Happy Boating

Yes, it will work. We do it in the shop all the time.

The motor will not balance 100% on that strap (the tiller end will hang low) -- better to use slings around the entire cowl if you need a real vertical lift. That 2-stroke 3/4 cyl manual is not for your motor; the 20 hp motors are 2-cylinder.
