Anyone ever lift a Hummer H2? I see many different set ups on the web and I'm not sure which kit to get. Mine has the airbag rear suspension. I'm looking to get 5" of lift and if I'm gonna dump the cash for the kit, I want to make sure I get the right one.

Thanks in advance.

What is the brand name of the kit your looking at, I know the guys around here normally use a kit made by Skyjacker and seem to be happy with it.

There are a few that I'm looking at. Skyjacker is one. Some come with aftermarket front drive shafts and some don't. Most come with aftermarket shocks. It's just that they all have the same application but with different components. Strange.

I just wondered if someone could point me as to which to use or stay away from.

Id try posing the question at Speedtv.com/trucks or extreme4x4.
They will give a ton of info.
They my even put you on tv and do it for you for free.
Personaly id get a real 4x4 to spend the money on tho. H1 or an F250, just my opinion.

Just curious,

Is this a lift for practical reasons, or for aesthetic reasons?

Wow!! Really?!? You had to go there?

Contrary to what one hears, the H2 is a real 4x4. I can't afford a H1 and I've already had the F250 and this outperforms the Ford on so many levels. Never bogged down, never got stuck, watertight door seals...all with power everything, full time 4 wheel drive, and self concealing mirrors!

But thanks for the info. I might just send an email to Speed TV and see what happens.

A little of both. I already run 36" tires on it, but I still want to go a bit more. I would like to get 5" of lift and 40" tires under it. I want it functional and I think it would look a little cool, too! There aren't any lifted ones around here.

Ok,

I was just wondering, because depending on the reasons, there are different ways to approach it, there are several kits on the market, all that I know of are safe, but some are beefier and some are not quite so beefy, but will still accomplish the job.

Good luck..

The 4 I've been reading about were FabTech, Rancho, Super Lift, and Skyjacker. Some lift above the axles and others below. They describe keeping the geometry of the steering and drive shaft as close to factory as possible.

Re: Lifting a Hummer H2

I have used Skyjacker and Superlift in the past for Bronco's I have owned, they were a good quality kit and I was happy with the quality. I have also known guys that won't use anything but Rancho, I love the Rancho shocks, but have never used their lifts on my vehicles...if their lifts have the quality that their shocks do, I would not hesitate to try one of their kits.

You need to locate a group that specializes in Hummers and get some feedback from the guys that are actually doing the changes, they should be able to give you some good insight on how to go about it the best way.

Not that you want to hear from a Jeep guy but heres my 2 cents.

Skyjacker I loved, soft springs that allowed my CJ7 to twist up great, only downside is if your running Dana 60 axles they can't handle the extra weight and torque, so they twist and I had to link my axles but they were my favorite.

Rancho had the best built springs but they were to stiff and I diidn't twist like the skyjackers.

I hear good things about Fabtech and heavier 4x4's and they are supposed to twist good as well but I have never used them

Superlift was a show or mud lift when I was into wheeling and therefore we never used them if you wanted articulation you went with another brand but if you wanted a 10" lift for a ford superduty and 44" boggers Superlift is your lift and enjoy the pavement or mud.

going from 36" tires to 40"s is going to be huge so add to that a 5" lift and were talking ginormous or roughly 6.5"inches of lift, I hope thats cool but if it were me I would make smaller steps so you don't waste money and go to big. Problem is nobody lifts H2's like you want to and that adds to the cool factor! but you will have a harder time selling the lifts you don't want. what are you doing? Mud or ????? Don't matter to me I'm just wondering. If your doing what you like in your pics I wouldn't go much more maybe 3" total lift then think about maybe a snorkel and waterproofing, if your too tall then you start getting top heavy and then your lift is a waste of money since you will have to link it and coil overs just to manage the top properly.

The Hummer H2 is built on the GMT800 series SUV (tahoe) chassis, I would imagine any Tahoe kit for the same year will work.

Unfortunately, it won't. From what I've read, the only thing it really shares is the frame rails and some odds & ends. The H2 runs independent front suspension, full time 4x4, and air suspension rear axle. The axle set ups are totally different, as are the spindles, steering links, and an assortment of other things.

Going to 40's are you going to change the gearing too?

W/o a gear change you will certainly slow it down on the bottom end....

As a person who never was a real fan of those trucks I will say yours going thru that swamp looks pretty cool. And with 36's must be pretty capable with that tried and true Chevy V8 & good running gear.

Good luck with it.

Shouldn't need to change gearing it runs 3.73:1 now. The OD is what makes it fuel conscious (HAHAHAHAHA) on the highway.

That 6.0L is a champ. It's bascially a (highly) detuned corvette engine. After market cold air induction and a SuperChips programmer makes this the only H2 I've seen that will smoke a set of 36's from a standstill!

Re: Lifting a Hummer H2

Is it Independent front and rear Suspension like the H1? Have you thought about a full axle swap? Reason I ask is are you sure your axles can take the increased drive angles of a 5 inch lift? Combine that with a tire thats 4" taller and maybe 30 lbs heavier could spell bad times for the drive train.....

Just wondering

It's really not about having adequate power but the ability to use the tires as designed in the low end. I would guess 4.10 may even not be enough and 5.13 could be better. I am looking forward to your future swamp runs. ;)

I have 4.10 in my 3/4 ton chev and in stock configuration they work perfect ...... I do allot of low gear work (not that you will ever do snow plowing :))....... I have also used the same type truck with 3.73 and I can see a world of difference.

If you are sending out for info...... I would ask.

BTW that 6 L you are running is truck tuned for grunt!! :D

One of the kits I'm looking at advertises that the way their kit is created, you keep the same geometry on the steering and the axles. That's the one I'm leaning toward.

I have 4.10:1 in this Chevy truck also and I can't get traction for crap!! Check it out...

Nice burn out video, but not very indicative of what is really going on, we used to do that with all of our rigs, by setting up an adjustable bias valve in the brake system and then dialing where we wanted the most holding power..

:D
