You're telling me! I work with the clinically depressed and the habitual pessimists...in my world it's an ongoing battle of perspectives all day long... Why just yesterday it was:
"Mr. Smith?"
"You beepedy beep beep what the beep do you beep'n want?"
"I just wanted to know if you are hungry, lunch is here,"
"oh...yeah I could eat, thanks."
OR
"if the Vikings lose today I am going to hang myself."
"Can't you just cheer for a better team?"
"no, I can't do that" ...I can always tell the delusional ones...they are the ones cheering on the Vikings
Having read the OP though I'm totally replacing the 'glass is half full' metaphor!
