Have vertical V1 Lewmar chain rode windless. 200 ft of 1/2 inch plait nylon rode and 15 ft of 1/4 chain and 22 Lb anchor

Dealer said rode was soaked for 24 hrs then installed after 48 hrs of drying.

Have used wrench to tighten gypsy but no change

Bringing anchor up from 40 to 60 ft the gypsy will slip some and stop, rode will also hang and bind up by not dropping into locker. I have to lower, clear bind and start bringing it up again. Have had to do this several times just to get anchor in.

Anyone have this kind of issue?

Only familiar with vertical windlass but binding is typical a lack of drop in the locker and or getting slack in the rode during retrieval.

Have adequate drop (18" min.) in your anchor locker?

Rode slipping or clutch?

Have not measured and may not be 18, more like 12 to 14. Manual shows 12 inch minimum. With 200ft of rode I could cut off 50 ft, but going from all chain (previous boat) to mix I may need more slope

Rode slipping or clutch?
Rode is slipping on clutch, its turning but some times rode isn't moving

and I misspoke windless is a V700 model
Sent a email to Lewmar asking same question

I had similar issues with my vertical windlass on the Formula. I went with a 5/8" line on a gypsy meant for 1/2 line and the problem went away. I also found that the anchor rode has to be somewhat taut in order for the gypsy to really grab. I think it is a short coming of vertical windlasses as they barely wrap around the gypsy 1/2 turn.

On my new boat, it is even worse. The deployment is supposed to be free-fall, but I find that I have to go forward and help the rode feed out. Pulling the anchor in seems to be OK.

Make sure you have the swivels and they are in good shape. I find each boat has its own quirks and takes some time getting used to. That was my boating season last year, a dramatic change from my Formula where I had everything dialed in. (didn't start out that way though . . .) You'll get there. (y)
