I'm new to the site and have already found lots of good info here. I bought a 1979 Baja 16ss with a Johnson 100HP last weekend. It's super clean and a lot of fun to drive so far but I'm looking for ideas on customizing and of course ways to get more top end speed out of it. I think I want to start with a prop. What kind of speed can I expect to get out of a 100HP? Post some pics of your Baja's and what you've done to them. Thanks in advance.

Good looking boat!!
If the boat is in good shape under the skin, no waterlogged foam, etc. you should hit the mid 40s with that set-up, maybe even nudging the 50 barrier if you're lucky. That old 100 is comparable to a current 90 as they re-rated horsepower in the mid 1980s from powerhead to propshaft to take into account parasitic losses in the drivetrain.

Thanks, it's in great shape. Someone did a really nice job restoring it. It ran 45mph with two adults in it with an aluminum 21p prop. I wonder if a nice stailess prop with a different pitch would get it to 50mph. There seems to be a lot of options when comes to props.
