Well I have learned my lesson. When your riders say yea I think I can go get the truck and back it in for you let them hold the boat at the dock and do it yourself. Mine hit the trailer next to us on one side damaging the right rear truck fender and bumper and cut to sharp on the left side and scarred the trailer all the way down and broke both tail lights off someone elses trailer. So lesson is the best way is do it yourself !!!

Re: Lesson Learned

I wasn't that lucky. Mine got to the ramp with both lights and one guide-on broken off and disappeared. :(

Re: Lesson Learned

Yep, my wife amazingly offered to get the truck one time and hit the trailer next to her. Only broke the guy's tail light but he insisted we pay for his upgrade to LED lights. Some of the ramps/parking areas have such unbelievably close quarters, I have to think trailers get hit all the time. There are a few I go to that take a lot of skill just to pull out of the parking spot if there is a truck parked next to you.

Re: Lesson Learned

Someone hit my trailer hard enough to bend metal, but no real damage. They left the scene.

Ouch for sure! I hate an audience at the ramp, as it can sure put the pressure on you to not screw up! My dad always said that the best show on the lake always took place at the ramp! haha.

Re: Lesson Learned

i must have been in someones way last time i went out came back to my trailer at a angle it wasnt at when i parked it, now i have moved trailers before in tight spots but have allways put them back when done, no big deal i just picked it up and moved it so i could get past the truck next to me, not sure what i would do if i wernt strong enough to, i thought how rude to not put it back where they got it

Like they say, you meet the nicest people on the water and the biggest idiots at the launch!

Re: Lesson Learned

Pulling out yesterday, a family was having trouble getting the boat correctly on the trailer so the dude starts swearing at his wife and others about whatever was wrong. At that point, I drop the wife off at the dock and back out so my 9 year old doesn't have to hear it. When my wife starts backing the trailer down the adjacent ramp, this dude starts swearing at his wife again because she can't back a trailer down like other wives can. I wanted to tell him to settle down and work with his wife to teach her how but I didn't want to deal with a hot-head. My wife and I have a great system and I was very patient in teaching her. She doesn't get in a hurry and usually gets the trailer in the water first try. I'm glad I read this thread so I can give her a friendly reminder to watch the other trailers in parking lots.

Re: Lesson Learned

Sorry to hear about that. Two weekends ago I had a guy back his trailer right into mine as I was preping to launch (he was trying to get his out) Put a nice dent in my fender but no other damage. Lucky for him I dont care much about the looks of my trailer as long as it functions and gets me to and from the water it will do for now. He promtly appologized and I told him not to worry about it. I was just glad no real damage was done.

Re: Lesson Learned

Being new to trailering (27ft that is - OAL of trailer) I dread this kind of stuff. I've just been taking it really slow so as not to be "that guy."

Re: Lesson Learned

set up the trash cans in an empty parking lot one Sunday and practice practice practice.
Practice with an empty trailer.
The top skill is knowing where the parts of the trailer you can't see are headed.

Re: Lesson Learned

They also sell some magnetic"flags" which you can put on the fenders to help you see where the trailer is when you're backing up.
