I have a 1976 OMC 190 HP Ford 302 with a small leak in the lower part of the transom between the rubber boot that seals the outdrive to the hull and the hull. It looks like the ring that holds the rubber boot on has cracks and needs to be replaced. It leaks about a gallon every 5 minutes.

The rubber does not look cracked but it feels like it's not being held in the seal. When I push on the rubber boot from inside the boat more water comes in. It leaks from the bottom like maybe it slipped out of the ring that holds it on. The problem first showed up when I hit reverse and stopped.

Is this rubber "boot" correctly called the "transom seal?"

Does this mean I have an OMC Stringer drive (all serial numbers have vanished)?

What are the bellows and U-Joint? If I have a water leak on the transom seal, should I take an extra look at these while the boat's being repaired?

I have the OMC manual on the boat.
