Ok so I took my boat out for the first time after rebuilding an engine I bought it with a blown motor it is an 89 omc cobra outdrive. Problem is the bilge was taking on a lot of water. I know the transom seal is a possibility but before I assume the worst I am checking the little things. I pulled the drive to find the u joint bellows full of water is that my bilge leak also?

Yup,you need bellows,it'll sink ya and ruin u-joints,and gimble bearing. Replace everything that got wet!

Re: Leaky bellows

Ok I pulled the drive and pivot housing and the problem is the gimbal bearing housing is missing a chunk out of the top where the bellow clamps too its been that way for a while from the looks of it is there any way to fix it without buying a whole new transom plate , maybe put some kind of sleeve over it with lock tight like u do a micro sleeve on a harmonic balancer , for the bellow to clamp on
