I just bought an 85 bayliner capri with a Volvo AQ125B and 270 drive. Supposedly last time it was in the water a year ago it did not leak but it had some engine work since then. Put it in the water today and had quite a bit of water in it in 5 minutes. Put it back on the trailer and looked for leaks but could not find any. Drained it out put it back in the water to find the leak but again could not find it. No holes in hull or on transom. Could the leak be around the u-joint bellows or the shift cable tube? How do I check these or other areas for leaks? If it is the shift cable tube how do I fix that?
Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Yes a bad U joint bellows will allow water into the boat, can even sink it if you do not catch it early enough. If it is the U joint bellows you have to remove the drive to change it, or the upper gear box. It is a maintenance item that should be changed at about 3 year intervals, if I remember correctly. So I would change it. However you should also check your U joints and the bearing in the bellhousing. In order to change the bearing you have to pull the engine. You should also get a manual if you plan to do the work yourself. Buy an OEM one, the aftermarket manuals are crap. Welcome to iboats!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day,
