First I would like to thank all that help me with my trim cylinder fix. Works great.
I have a 1995 Real Valenti, Volvo out drive, 7.4 L/454 engine.
I noticed stiff steering last weekend and topped off the PS pump reservoir.
After a short ride, 8 - 10 miles, the steering got stiff again at on-plane speed. At low speed, just above idle and in gear, all is well.
At the dock, I checked the reservoir again and it was low. After checking hoses and connections, front to back, all is dry.
I noticed the bottom of the reservoir tank was wet up to the seam where the tin meets the cast pump.
I guess the o-ring between the reservoir and pump is leaking.
I have looked on the forum and found an answer about automotive PS pump pressure, should be the same.
The question is; can I use a PS pump for a 7.4 Chevy/GMC, 1 ton truck? I can get one from the A guys part store for about $60 where the one from the boat doctors are $400 +. Another option is to get the rebuild kit, $15, and replace the o-ring.
I have a PS pulley puller and/or can get one easily.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
