Leaking oil from foot!

I have a 1982 30hp mariner and it is leaking oil from the water inlet vents on the foot. I drained the oil and it is milky white. What caused this and how do I fix it? Also when I turn the key off or pull the emergency cord it does not turn off sometimes. Any idea what wire to check on the harness? Thank you.

Milky oil, WATER!!!!
Need to drain it and pressure test it.
Could be a seal on the drain plug or shaft seals.
No tester? Use the search function on this site.They have links to homade pressure testers.
Refill and run on the hose for a while.If it turns milky then it's the seal under the pump.Otherwise it's one of the other seals.
Fill out the profile(location)you might be close to someone who can help.

I'm gonna guess that it's the seal under the pump. That makes sense since the oil was coming from the water vents. I'll fill it and recheck the oil. So I need a lower unit seal kit then right?

Any input on the wiring issue?

There are seals on the vent and fill plugs, driveshaft, waterpump base, shiftshaft and propshaft. From your description, it sounds like the pumpbase or driveshaft seal. I would recommend you buy a new waterpump base and install it, with a new oring and base gasket. Clean and lube the drivesahft before installation, so you don't tear the new drivesahft seal..

I'm sure gear oil goes in the foot but what weight? I will order the kit off of this site now and get it changed. I will post the results. Thanks for the help.

Any marine gear oil for mechanical shift motors, is suitable for your Merc. It will be SAE-80 or 85

i got the Quicksilver 1ltr lower unit oil and came with a screw on pump for around $15

If the oil is leaking from the water inlets it's a leaking seal under the water pump wear plate.The kill wire on your motor is black with a yellow stripe.this gets connected to ground when you turn the key off.check all of the connections from the helm control back.
