Hello all...Iam doing my spring boat workandI need advise. My carbs seem to be leaking bad. gas justseems to be comming right thru the opening. I have a 1990 90 hp evinrude w/ a working vro. cleaned everything only to find gas (and oil) in the driveway the next day. It is not leaking from any of the hoses around the fuel pump (replaced pump 8ish years back)....
any thoughts would be helpful. thanks

Both carbs leaking fuel?
Sounds like you might have a needle/seat problem, thats what controls the fuel flow through the carbs.

yes, both are leaking....seems to be mostly oil, but I cannot tell. just seems to come out of the "opening".

Exactly what "opening" are we talking about. There are many? Is the engine tilted up when this happens?

Air intake...and the tilt is down will most likely get them rebuilt, just dont want it to be the fuel pump or something else

Re: leaking carb(s)

I had a similar problem today- Pulled off top carb, and found a cracked hose. I believe it was the recirculator hose. If what you were finding had a lot of oil in it, you may have the same problem. Only takes about 15 minutes to diagnose. If you find that hose to be cracked (most likely right at the connector) most auto parts stores have them in stock. I got 3+ feet today for $2.00. I only needed about 8 inches but I think I'm going to replace some more down the road.

Let me know if that fixes the problem - good luck!

That engine may have plastic carb bowls. If so-they are probably your problem. With age, they warp and won't seal to the carb body and can leak fuel.
