i just got my new fuel pump in tonight. when i went to prime it with the primer bulb, gas spewed out the center screw than hold the round outer plastic outlet housing on. the part # is 438562. this is off the 57 gale 25hp.

I took the screw out and examined the o-rings and they look fine. i even turned the smaller inner o-ring over. ive done that before if there is a little nick in them and sometimes they will seal. it didn't. i tightened it up pretty good but it didn't help. i'm afraid to tighten it up more or i'll break it.

i didn't do anything to the pump before i installed it so i know i didn't mess it up.

What do you think?

i called the shop i bought it from. they told me to get a bigger screwdriver and tighten it 1/4 turn at a time and squeeze primer bulb until it stops.

sound right to you?

I tightened the screw on mine by hand, with no leaks. I would lean toward a faulty o ring, or a bad housing.
