Leak Down Test Questions

I am considering buying a 1997 Ranger Bass Boat with a 1997 Merc 175hp EFI on it. To be sure the engine is ok, I'd like to have a leak down test completed.

The owner says the engine has about 100 + hours on it. The boat appears to be in excellent condition.

Questions:

1. Can most outboard repair shops do this test?

2. How long does the test take?

3. What's a ball-park cost on the test?

( I do not have the ability-knowledge to do the test)

Thx
Arc

Re: Leak Down Test Questions

Leakdown tests are typically done on 4-strokes. I'm not sure how much value it is for a 2-stroke.

willy
its a cylinder. all a leakdown test does is measure the ability for the cylinder to seal. most manufactures give a max of 15% I toss them at 12%. 15% is just to much.
