I want to do some preventative maintenance. How often do you change out your leaf springs? I dunk my boat primarily in the salt and my leaf springs are begining to rust. When do you know when they are good to go besides seeing your boat leaning one day.

Basically they do wear a bit but not enough to "schedule" a change. If they are sagging or cracked replace them. You can wire brush off the rust and oil them which is a temporary fix for your eyes.

Can you still spring the boat up and down? If so you are okay.

Bob

When my leaf springs seperated from the frame, I bought a new trailer without springs. Keep an EYE on them :D If it looks bad, it is bad  You're on the right track.

I replace the old springs about 3 seasons ago and smeared them with wheel bearing grease. I spray em with rust preventer (Boeshield T-9) before each dunking. So far they still look like new! Also hose off well after going in the salt

If they are just beginning to rust, just oil the up a bit. You have YEARS to go...you should see mine! Its spring steel, it will rust, but not to worry for a while. BUT keep an eye on the shackle U-Bolts that hold them to the axle. If you do need parts......Champion Trailer parts, or ABC Trailer parts
